My way of working. Living on Bonaire, I have a valuable source of materials in what nature offers me. Often it concerns wood that has washed up from the sea. I prefer to be inspired by the found things and I usually use the most important characteristics of those things as a starting point for a new perspective within my permanent theme 'Habitats.' The core of the work often consists of colored hovels that form the actual living objects. What fascinates me most during my work is the experiment. By doing things in an unusual way, I regularly discover new possibilities. Sometimes those discoveries just happen during the work itself, by way of chance. Every newly found possibility of working is a precious moment. There are countless ways of living in the world. People can live in houses, rocks, huts, trees, etc. This enormous variety of living forms cause me to take the liberty to also create living situations that arise entirely from my fantasy. The fact that 'Habitats' has been my theme for over 10 years proves the seemingly endless possibilities this theme offers me.
